People

The trust has been fortunate in attracting a group of talented individuals who work together in support of our aims. They are spearheaded by -

 

President -

Gareth O. Edwards, CBE, President

We are delighted that Gareth Edwards, the famous Welsh rugby international and enthusiastic angler, accepted our invitation to be President. An iconic figure in Wales and much further afield Gareth will be a major asset in helping to promote the work of the Trust. He was awarded the CBE for services to sport in the 2007 New Year’s Honours.

Chairman -

Anthony Rees, MBE, Chairman

Tony has been an enthusiastic angler all his life and, like all responsible anglers, has taken a keen interest in protecting and improving the natural environment. He has provided strong leadership for the Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association over many years. He has served on Environment Agency regional committees and local fishery groups. At present, he is Chairman of the Taff Local Fishery Group and sits on the executive committee for the Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association. A retired master butcher, Tony was awarded the MBE in the 2005 Birthday Honours for services to angling in South Wales.

Jonathon Mead -

Jonathan Mead is Corporate Environmental Manager for Dow Corning. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and a Chartered Environmentalist with the Society for the Environment. He has held a variety of posts within the chemical industry, including manufacturing, research and engineering, before specialising in environmental management. He chairs the South East Wales Area Environment Group of the Environment Agency and sits on its Wales Environmental Protection Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the CBI Environmental Affairs Committee.

Steve Ormerod

Professor of Ecology in Cardiff University’s School of Bioscience, Steve Ormerod is known world-wide for his research into the effects of pollution and habitat quality on river organisms. A past member of Council of the Freshwater Biological Association and Countryside Council for Wales, he is a Trustee of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, chairman of RSPB Wales’ Advisory Committee and, in 2008, was elected President of the Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management.

 

Robert Williams

Bob Williams is Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Advanced Technology at the University of Glamorgan where, before retirement, he was a Dean. He is known in the international academic community for his contributions to the design of medical imaging systems and lower limb wound assessment. He is a life-long fly fisherman and countryman.
